Tromsø

A two-leg flight from Copenhagen, located more than 300 km North of the Arctic Circle, I found something that resembled the quintessential of a winter landscape. November in Tromsø does not necessarily entail snow. But a few days prior to my arrival, major snowfalls hit the North of Norway, resulting in record depths of snow, breaking a 97-year old record.

I spent 5 days in Tromsø. Most of them were spent cross-country skiing - one of the main means of transportation there during winter. Another day was spent in Tromsøbadet - a communal swimming pool located in the center of the island. One of my strongest memories from this trip, was enjoying majestic views of the mountain peaks during sunset from their heated outdoor pool. Even entering it through automated glass doors, out onto an exterior bassin, where vapour rised just above the surface of the water, felt incredible. And having those insane views whilst soaking up a sore body was… Yeah. F***ing amazing. Make sure to go here, if you’re in Tromsø during winter. Sadly, no pictures of this place featured here.

I brought my camera out with me when skiing and on day trips, capturing mesmerising icy formations and white landscapes. And the light. The light. Something special. It felt like the sunset lasted 3-4 hours. This low Northern sun turned my surroundings into something so difficult to describe. A gloomy light. Something that definitely should be experienced.
